the lowdown |
Often
when you read about stars today you'll hear that
from the moment they could walk and talk they were
singing and dancing or that their parents had them
in every singing, music and dance class possible but
Feritta was just a regular kid who sang in choirs
because it was fun.
At age eleven she was awarded a
scholarship to study the clarinet which she
continued for two years. Things changed when she
started high school and music fell into the
background as her parents wanted her focus on
academics. Her teenage years were a tricky balancing
act of trying to be a normal "Aussie" teenage girl
and trying please her traditional, conservative
parents.
As was expected university followed but Feritta knew
her true passion was music. A renewed focus saw
Feritta begin vocal coaching with Lucy D'Olimpio of
Harmony School of Voice and Music who saw her talent
and encouraged her to pursue her dream.
Her first experiences with the music industry taught
her a lot when Feritta signed to a record label who
promised big dreams but in the end the label went
under and Feritta had nothing to show for herself.
It was a cruel blow and there was a growing tide of
advice telling her to give up music and get a "real
job". Feritta would not give up and she continued to
write, sing and perform live. In time she was
introduced to UK writers and producers "Cube"- Dean
Hopkins and Brian Highet.
Feritta recorded several tracks with Cube.
"Boyfriend", which went to # 1 on the mp3.com.au
charts as well as performing their track "Be What U
Wanna Be" in Melbourne, Australia, a finalist out of
nearly 150 acts in a national competition. Soon
after this collaboration Cube disbanded.
At
this time Feritta and Hopkins took the opportunity
to pursue a fusion Indian/R&B project and the "east
meet west" fusion was born. Their first
collaboration, "Don't Tell Me That You're Sorry"
reached #2 on the mp3.com.au charts and remained in
the R&B top 20 for over a year.
Her music has seen her enjoyed huge success on
various independent and online music charts. She has
consistently performed on the USA Broadjam.com
Charts including the Pop Top 10, Contemporary R&B
Top Ten, Production Top 10, Female Vocal Top 10,
Australian Top 10 , California Top 10, and more -
often with two tracks dominating a single Top Ten
chart at any one time. She has also had several #1
hits on the Broadjam charts.
Twice voted Best Female Solo Artist Australia in the
International Music Aid Awards, (2006/2007) and a
two WAMi nominee, Feritta wrote and performed the
Official Theme Song, "The Light" for the 4th World
Zoroastrian Youth Congress held in Victoria,
Australia. The event brought youth from all over the
world to Australia's shores.
Recently Feritta added producer to her list of
skills after writing, performing and producing three
Hindi songs for her first independent film project,
"The Taste of Relation".
Performing and promoting "A Journey Begins" has seen
Feritta open to sold out crowds for the "The
Godfather of Bhangra" Bally Sagoo in Australia and
Mumbai's star DJ, DJ Nawed in the USA. DJ Nawed has
produced for Bollywood superstars such as Shahrukh
Khan.
A keen business woman, with her business degree in
hand, Feritta is now also branching out into
merchandising and will soon be launching her own
fashion and accessories label.
